What is a Healthcare Assistant?
Often relied upon as the backbone of the nursing industry, HCAs form an essential part of the nursing framework. An essential part of the nursing team care assistants are required to perform nursing roles where formal training and qualifications aren't required.

HCA jobs in a hospital

A job as a nursing assistant (formally called Auxiliary Nurses) is challenging and rewarding. You'll be expected to dress wounds to provide support and advice to patients. As the roles of nurses have recently required more responsibility, so HCAs have, in turn, been expected to take on more nursing tasks. Becoming an HCA isn't just a career stepping stone to a role as a staff nurse either. It can be in itself a career choice.

Carer jobs in a care home

In a care home or domiciliary setting, of course, the role of a carer may be slightly different to that in an acute setting. But again, the job has real challenges and will teach you skills in, for instance, managing dementia patients, caring for the elderly, or those with learning disabilities. Either as a career in itself or a springboard to taking a full nursing course and passing exams, a job as an HCA can offer excellent opportunties.
